The power of today’s chemotherapy creates tremendous healing possibilities for cancer patients and has fewer side effects than ever before. Chemotherapy has been an answer for those diagnosed with cancer since the early 1940’s. It is essentially the use of powerful drugs or combinations of drugs to destroy cancer cells. With advances occurring almost daily, there are now hundreds of drugs available to treat cancer. The highly trained physicians who prescribe chemotherapy are known as medical oncologists.

At The Centers for Cancer and Blood Disorders, our medical oncologists and nursing staff are acutely aware of the fears and concerns of our patients in relation to chemotherapy. They will discuss the options for treatment and the many ways in which side effects such as nausea, pain, fatigue, and others can be managed. With the wide variety of new medications, these symptoms are often minimal and sometimes nonexistent.

We offer our patients the questionnaire below to help assess symptoms that may be associated with chemotherapy.

To the cancer patient:
A better understanding of what is happening with your own body and the need to ask for help is vital to maintaining a sense of empowerment in your own life.
