J. Carlos Hernandez, M.D., brings over twenty years of private and academic experience to The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

Dr. Hernandez completed a fellowship in intraoperative radiotherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky (chief resident). Dr. Hernandez was in private practice in San Antonio for many years. During that time he also served as a member of the faculty of the University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Hernandez has published more than 20 papers in oncology journals and six chapters in oncology textbooks.

As longtime supporters of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Hernandez and his wife have both served on many committees. They enjoy trying new restaurants and traveling. Most of all, they like spending time with their daughter. Reading non-fiction is one of Dr. Hernandez's interests. Over the last few years he has been writing a book focused on philosophy.
